Lean
Study Tour to Japan
November 2010
The Improve Group are very excited to announce our
Lean Study Tours to Japan for 2010.
The tours held in 2008 were so successful our host companies,
Toyota, Nissan, Canon, Asahi Glass, Sango, Denso, Daihatsu Motor,
Nikon, Yamaha, Ajinomoto, Mitsubishi, Ricoh, Dunlop, Aichi Sangyo,
and Toto, have agreed to schedule further tours.
We are fortunate to have the support and encouragement of major
Japanese companies who are eager to share their knowledge and
experiences on how they were able to improve their manufacturing
operation.
Those lucky enough to join us will see some of the world’s best Lean
Manufacturing principles at work. Visits to major Japanese companies
such as Toyota, Nissan and Canon who have Lean Manufacturing
processes in place are included as part of the itinerary.
The Improve Group with our US partner company
Enna, will host Lean
Workshops and exclusive opportunities to interact with the workers
on the shop floor.
To keep up with the other Australian and New Zealand companies that
joined us previously, we encourage you not to delay. Places are
limited.

Testimonial
We had already started working with The
Improve Group and had implemented many Lean principles
before we went on the Lean Study Tour to Japan. What we
saw in Japan blew our minds and made us realise we had
quite a way to go before we could say our business is a
‘Lean’ organisation.
In
Japan we realised that the principles of ‘Lean’ apply to any
business whether it be in manufacturing, banks, administration or
even the health profession.
We
also saw a greater respect for people. Team leaders asked their
operators where they saw their careers heading. And, instead of just
telling them what to do, they asked them how they thought processes
could be improved and waste eliminated.
Since returning from Japan we have implemented new problem solving
techniques and our leadership and management style has changed. Our
operators are included in the decision making process as such have
taken ownership of their jobs. They are much happier meaning staff
turnover is greatly reduced.
Even
our administration areas are much ‘leaner’ with a 50% decrease in
accounts payable process.
The
Lean Study Tour to Japan was a fantastic experience for us and we
learnt so much. We’re even looking to send 2 more of our team next
year.
